Ohm Switching Resistor

<p>The Edelrid OHM is an innovative series resistor that makes belaying much easier when there is a significant weight difference between the climber and the belayer. In the event of a fall, the OHM increases rope friction to such an extent that significantly less force is exerted on the belayer. This makes it easier and safer to hold a heavier partner. Lowering a heavier person can also be carried out in a much more controlled manner. In a figurative sense, &ldquo;the OHM makes the belayer 25 kg heavier,&rdquo; reliably compensating for the weight difference.</p> <p>The device is installed in the first hook of the belay chain. In the event of a fall into this hook, the OHM significantly reduces the risk of collision or a ground fall. It does not affect handling during lead climbing: no additional friction is generated when feeding out the rope, so the flow of climbing remains undisturbed. The second generation is equipped with a swivel joint that provides greater freedom of movement and optimizes handling regardless of the direction of attachment.</p> <p>The Edelrid OHM is suitable for single ropes with a diameter of 8.9&ndash;11.0 mm, has a breaking load of 20 kN, and requires a minimum weight of 40 kg for the belayer. Whether in the gym or on the rock, it offers more safety, comfort, and control for climbing pairs with a significant weight difference and is a valuable addition to any sport climbing equipment.</p>
